Maryland, Virginia, or ???

I'm moving to Washington D.C. and I would like to invest in a growing, affordable, and revitalizing area in Maryland or Virginia (or other areas within 2 hr drive fr DC; max) with a potential growth in the future. I'm hoping to find an area for about $400-$500 SFR as a weekend getaway from hustle and bustle of the city life.

Note: Weekend home only so daily commute should not be a huge factor.

Any advice?
