Rentals or Flipping?

One of my biggest goals is to be financially free before the age of 35. I'm currently 18. I've been broadly educating myself the last few months but feel I need to narrow my education to what will best suit my goal. I'm curious what you guys think is the best route to take in order to be the most successful long-term. I personally feel that owning a large portfolio of rental properties would be more rewarding into the future as compared to inconsistent chunks of cash from flipping houses. But I'd appreciate any thoughts as to what would best set me up to achieve my goal. Thank you.
