transfer funds from another country

What would you say is the best way to transfer large sums of money from another country to the US?

I hear there are companies that offer this specific service..? Could you name a few? How was your experience if you have used them? Do they offer better exchange rates/fees? Or just do a wire transfer?

@Irko Maurizio Sera, I used a bank transfer but it wasn't a very big amount. 

Go to different banks and see which one might have the lowest fees with a bank from the country that you want to transfer from.
