Done with this....
Well BP, I have pretty much had enough.... of my job, that is.
I am quitting my job tomorrow. I am 25 years old and have a job that pays about 80K per year. I didn't always have that job though. Other than last year I have only made between 30-40. I got married when I was 19 and bought my first house a few months before the wedding. We bought the house for 12K and boy was it a fixer upper. Fire damaged out the wazoo and was a total gut job! We spent the next five years fixing it up ourselves as we got the money. We have it paid off and used the equity from it to buy and rehab another house. We made almost 70K on that house and that has put us in a really good financial position.
My job takes a lot of my time between commuting and the hours worked (I leave my house at 5 and don't get home until after 6). I live over an hour away, and we have periods through the year where we work 6/12's for over a month straight. Most of the year is working around 50 hours though. I have spent a ton of time away from my young kids and wife while hustling on the side with work and investing. I have lived by Dave's motto of "Live like no-one else so later you can live like no-one else," and it has really been paying off.
The thing is, I don't want to sacrifice my family anymore. Recently I have been spending much more structured time with them and it has been TOTALLY worth it. However it is really hard to get my RE work in. I feel like if all of the work I have put in the past few years isn't to put me in the position I am in now, then what have I been doing it for??? My ultimate goal with all of my financial goals is for time with the family. In the past I have sacrificed my family time in pursuit of my long term goal of financial independence that will allow me to spend more time with my family. CRAZY!!!
Another cool thing about my job is that I can travel and make about 10K per month during the 6/12 periods. So if I needed to I could just work 4 months out of the year to more than cover my annual budget.
I definitely have the hustle and background for this business full time, but I guess it is a little nerve wracking leaving the weekly "security". I have made so much more out of the time invested in real estate than at my job, I feel like my job is really holding me back at this point. I also at this point don't really care that I will just have a J-O-B in RE. I feel like doing this full time will just put me in that much better of a position to get the good passive income down the road.
Sorry for the ramblings and randomness, I just had some thoughts and felt like you guys are the best people to talk to. Thanks BP for all the knowledge and getting me to this life changing decision. The conversations and posts here have opened my mind and given me an immeasurable advantage in this game.
Thanks again guys.
