Our best renovation!

For our 28th renovation, my uncle inherited my grandparent's 1908 house when they passed away seven years ago.  This was the only home my grandparents ever owned, where my mom was raised and where I spent hours and hours.  Sadly, my uncle had some psychological issues and at the time of his passing in October 2014, he had allowed the house to deteriorate to the point where it didn't even have working restrooms, the roof was missing in places, about 70 dead mice were found throughout the property dying after eating electrical parts from knob and tube wiring, the entire basement had over a foot of standing water and we found several nests of black widows.  After negotiating with the remaining aunts, uncles and cousins, we purchased the house and completed an extensive renovation.  We received multiple offers within three days and ultimately sold to a young couple excited to make it their home.  In their offer letter, they pleaded that we pick them because all they could think of when they walked in the house was hanging their Christmas stockings on the fireplace mantel.  This was especially meaningful because my stocking hung on that same mantel for 20 Christmases.  My grandparents and mom would be so happy that this house that had been so full of love and amazing memories was renovated and offered an opportunity for a new generation to make memories in.

We worked hard to keep the 1908 charm and integrity and were applauded by the local historic home association.  (We did remove a wall to open up the space's sight line from the living room to the kitchen.)
