I’m buying a property that I may want to be a duplex. Does anybody have any experience working with king county changing the property type? What’s the process look like?

Is it in unincorporated King County or a specific city?

Changing zoning to a duplex (LR1 / RSL or higher) is effectively impossible in King County. Setting it up as a SFH w/ ADU, depending on the city you're operating in, may achieve the same goals and not require any changes in zoning.
