I am looking to buy a condo in Oceanside or nearby area. Is it feasible to do str and use when not occupied? Looking for ideas from local realtors, owners and pms . Thanks in advance.

We have been managing vacation rentals in the Oceanside/Carlsbad area for the past 40 years.  The industry has changed a lot over the last 5 years.  What I tell clients looking at STRV investments in California....make sure the numbers work even if you change it from an STVR to another use such as long term unfurnished.  The laws/ordinances for STVR is ever changing, in some areas cities have put complete bans on short term rentals, while in other areas there are no restrictions.  Oceanside put into place a STVR ordinance about 1 year and half ago.  Requiring permitting, annual fire inspections and TOT to be collected and paid.  You can check out the ordinance for Oceanside on their webpage.  Hope that helps.
