Communication with contractors

Hello biggerpockets community!

I was wondering how you guys go about getting your contractor on the same page as you in what you want your rehab to look like before the work starts. When you do your walkthrough with the contractor, do you write down notes on a piece of paper for what you want done in each room? Do you draw up blueprints? Or do you expect the contractor to write down your demands? As you can tell I'm very new to this and would like to know how to go about doing it the right way so there are no misunderstandings when production starts.

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

P.s. I have no clue how to draw up blueprints
