US Investment markets

Hey guys, Canadian potential investor here.

I am curious on opinions on buying cheaper sfh, condos or townhomes in the 50-80k USD range. Been on roofstock checking places out and different realtor sites as well. Two places that stand out are Chicago IL and Huntsville Alabama. For drastically different reasons obviously.

I intend on purchasing remotely, using property management and being very hands off. Just wondering if anyone has insight into the price point and the markets.. should I delay until I get more equity in my current investments and move up to 100k usd or is this plan ok? Or is it ok in Chicago but not Huntsville due to social issues?

I see 50-80k places in these areas that seem to cashflow nicely.. but aside from the bad renters risk am I missing anything? Is it less likely to have bad renters at those price points at one location or another? Also I am not stuck just to chicago I'd go out to cahokia and same with huntsville id go out to meridian as well...

Opinions?

If you don't know the market, don't invest there.  I'd encourage you to invest in your backyard....or learn one like the back of your hand.
