Real estate in Long Island?!

Hey guys!!! I’ve been listening to bigger pockets podcast and researching real estate investing for a little while now. I’m looking to get started but am wondering if there is anyone experienced with real estate in Long Island that could give me some tips!? Good places to buy a first property? And whether or not I need to have a license to whole sale?!
