Looking for contractors in SE Michigan

this part of the RE business is killing me! i find it harder to find and work with a contractor than finding the next deal!

i had a contractor lined up to start on a house today and he stopped taking my calls. No money was exchanged, but he promised that 15th is when he was available and would start the work.

Luckily, there was a delay with the loan and loan docs, so i have not closed on the house. I am even thinking of not closing on the house because i can't find a contractor.

I have been to Home Depot, i have been to Contractor forums looking for contractors. a couple came and gave me a crazy quote, some never came. most never gave me a call back.

I have a really hard time getting contractors in the Livonia/Westland/Downriver/Wayne country areas. I have gone through 10-15 guys in the last 2-3 yrs. 

I tried a "handyman" from CL and he turned out to be a hack. 

any suggestions, recommendations, ideas?

 Okay, so the problem isn't finding contractors, it's finding contractors that give bids you think are moneymakers instead of giving you bids they think are moneymakers.

If you can't get licensed, insured, and reputable contractors to bid your work, the marketplace is telling you something.
