Section 8, Does Section8 pay you to rehab the property and then rent it out?

Enrique Metauten

Hello,
I'm excited, this is my first post.

I've seen post online that say that Section 8 will help you with the cost to remodel a home if you then place it on the Section 8 program. Does anyone have any information on this? I've done some searching but haven't found any information.

I'm looking to buy my first investment property and this sounds very appealing.

Thanks,

Enrique

I have never heard of Section 8 providing rehab funds.

If they do, be careful of the strings attached.  Sounds a lot like making a deal with the devil.  You may not like the outcome.

Hi Enrique, welcome to BP!

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but form my understanding Section 8 doesn't typically cover remodeling costs for a property. However, they do have certain standards your property must meet to qualify for the program.

As Greg mentioned, I would be careful of the potential caveats. If this is going to be your first investment, it's important to budget for any necessary repairs or upgrades yourself to ensure a cushion or opt for a different strategy.
