What are your opinions on IDX Websites and CRMs, Centralized Tool

The market is full of people who are looking to buy or sell their home. They obviously need an agent if they are planning to take action so why not be that agent they choose? I hear quite a bit that agents lose customers simply due to the customer doing home searches on Zillow where they are flooded with advertisements and exposure to other agents and tools. The best option is to keep these leads and potential customers in your care while they are doing what they need to make a decision, while you have the insights you need to follow up with your customer appropriately or just to keep them in the loop. This is the way to manage your sphere of influence while also being a resource for new leads. Just wondering if anyone is offering best practices on staying competitive here?
