Hello Milwaukee investors. I am looking at duplexes in Milwaukee. In using Trulia to assess the crime in the area I also just noticed you can get that info using Realtor.com. Which one is more accurate? For example I came across 4187 N. Montreal St. On Trulia the crime in that area is a light green which is good but on Realtor.com it is orange which is the worst. Help me out here-which is it? Thank you all in advance.

Jorge

Jorge Ruiz +1 to what Anthony Gjolaj is suggesting. Also, if you have a potential property manager then I’d run the address by them. My PM will tell me: I don’t want to vs. I will for you vs. I want to manage _____ property. If you don’t want to use a PM and will self-manage locally, drive around at 2 a.m. on a Saturday night. Walk around (on foot) at 10 p.m. on a Sunday. See how you feel. You’ll be the one dropping by collecting late rent 😀

Combine your feelings with the heatmaps. Not to mention that you can usually scroll through reported crimes in the area on sites like Trulia. For me, arrests for drugs and shootings are a different animal than someone breaking into a car, shoplifting, etc. Not that any of these things are “good”.
