Dead animal underneath - can I break my lease?
Hi I recently moved to an apartment (studio). Since I moved in I smell an awful odor. It was like something was dead. First week I tried to figure it out what it was. I thought it was the ac that needed maintenance. Reach out landlord, landlord visited and thought it was something dead, first visit nothing was done more kind of wait to the smell was gone. The smell haven’t allowed me to have proper sleep. I complained again, ac technician did a maintenance in the ac (it was gross so that’s why I thought could be an ac issue). Smell kept going on. I complained again. Nothing. Then I had 30 flies inside of my apartment (no windows opened), then another 10 flies would come again, and again again. So I’ve been living with flies and also a dead animal. After my final complaint where I’ve been figuring out if I should leave this place (it’s been almost a month that I’ve been living with this smell). They finally decided to look for a dead animal. Were at least 2 dead animal, some remains still underneath because it was really difficult to cleaned it.
So, now I’m in a point that I would really like to leave this place. I’ve been forced to lived with dead animal and the smell “to wait until is gone”. Landlord did try to fixed it, but after my 4th complain I guess it was taken more seriously. I tried to talked to realtor and she said it wasn’t a reason to break the lease, even though I’ve been living in this situation where I believe is not even healthy and it could be dangerous.‘I need help.
