Buyer's agent commission fee

Hi, We bought a house in Jericho, NY and had the closing yesterday. Our attorney made us to draw a certified check towards agent's company and they said that's part of the sale, but it shouldn't be! They added agent's commission to the sale price. Isn't it supposed that the seller should pay the commission of both parties's agent (the seller and buyer agents)? Please advice me
