Top Guru Secrets

Understanding that no Guru really has the "secret" to real estate investing, is there anything that you have gotten from their books/courses/seminars that you haven't found elsewhere?

In my case, I paid (way to much) for the Carlton Sheets course, and while it motivated me, it didn't have much I couldn't have found here. What it did have though, is a very large list of different creative financing techniques, and walkthroughs on out to make them work. Granted, a some of them aren't going to be possible but 1 time in 100, its still the only part of that course that I think I still own.

The word "secret" gets floated around quite a bit. Unfortunatley, the gurus have given it a bad wrap, just as they have done to many things, including the word guru!
That said, if I know how to do something in RE and you don't, that information is certainly a "secret" to you, but not to me. For the other investors who also know the info, it is not a secret to them. Obviously, there is no ONE investor who knows something about a tecnique that nobody else knows, but their are several techniques and strategies that are creative, etc which are currently a "secret" to many, but not to all.

RE investing has been around for a very long time, but as markets change and laws change, and rules change, we as investors have had to come up with new and inovative ways to do business.
Does a guru own a "secret" strategy? - NO
Are there several pieces of information which are held close to the chest of particular investors - YES. If they are willing to share that info with you, that "secret" is no longer a secret to you, just to those who don't have the info or knowledge.

I think that there are pieces of information you could get from a respected guru (if there is such a thing) but the most important factor in my mind is how you as the student are capable and willing to apply that knowledge in the business!

I have specific techniques and strategies I use in regards to REO investing. I don't share the particulars with everyone, only with some of my students. I did not invent or own these, but my knowledge and experience working them in the real world ceratinly is advantageous for me and those I share it with who choose to apply that knoweldge or technique.

Educating yourself is of vital importance, and choosing the right educator is just as important!
