Los Angeles Real Estate Investors Expo - Any good??

Question

Has anybody been to the REIExpo events? There was one held in Chicago this year and now in Los Angeles on Nov. 2.

Any first hand experience? Was it worth it? Did you learn anything practical or was it all a bunch of rah rah rah. BS? Any vendors that you like?

I would have to travel accross the country and spend around $700 so just wondering if it's worth the price.

I've been to two of Tim's (and Arnie's) REI Expos in DFW.  He does a great job pulling it all together and working with the speakers.  It's not a sales pitch fest but everyone should accept reality -- the speakers are there for a reason.  To the OP's question, I did not find rah, rah, rah ... and I learned something practical at both events.  There were at least 5 BP members at the last Expo in Hurst.

I've got to say, the REI expo is a great place to meet a ton of people who are actually out there "doing". As a matter of fact, I met one of my most consistent buyers at the last Dallas/Ft. Worth REI Expo.

This event truly does bring out investors in every stage of a career, whether it be investors looking to try and figure out what strategy to start with, to investors who have been in the game for decades. Any time you've got an opportunity to get around others to learn and network, it's an opportunity worth taking. Especially when the opportunity has as many people as show at the REI expo events. Tim's very clear with his speakers, too, as far as the "sales pitch" goes, so it fosters much more of a learning experience than many of the other "expo" events I've been to.

As long as your take some initiative while you're out there, you'll be hard-pressed to not come away with an advantage of some sort.

I have known Tim Herriage for several years and I have attended all the Dallas Expos. My company has also been a sponsor of the Texas expos and Baltimore Expo. Tim is a man of his word so he will absolutely stand behind that guarantee. I am an investor in single family and multifamily. The REI EXPOs are a great place to meet other investors, find quality vendors and get great ideas for your business. Tim is very strict with expo speakers and if their classes are not content instead of sales pitch they are not invited back. The expo allows you to explore a lot of different investment approaches and investment vehicles all in one location. You will learn things you can apply to you current investment business or you may find a whole new investment approach that fits your lifestyle and goals.

@Joe Gore Did you attend one of our events?  The actual REI Expo?  There are several "expo" events out there, and I am focused on making mine different.

REI Expos are a great way to meet people from all walks of life that deal in real estate but a big turn off is when they try to sell their snake oil, and most of the salesman has never tried what they are selling or tested it to see if it works or not.

@Mike Dricken  I attended the REI Expo in Baltimore earlier this year and found it to be worth a weekend and the associated costs with driving up from the DC area and staying overnight. Although there were a few guru seminars that were very sales pitch oriented, I found them to be the exception rather than the rule. many local investors groups from the surrounding area were also invited to speak and I found these to be, by far, the most useful presentations.

Additionally, in Baltimore, there were usually about 4 speakers going at any one time, so if you found that one wasn't really covering items of interest, you could wander out and into another presentation that was more interesting.

If you are investing in the LA area, I would recommend going. If you are investing more in your local market, I think the expo will give you some good general ideas, but won't be as interesting for your market specifically.

I am actually interested in investing in Texas, so will probably fly out to attend one of the expos held there at some point. it's a great way to meet local vendors, which I think is also one of the best parts of the expo.
