Does anyone have any tips on finding a good local handyman to handle general tasks/small repairs? Or perhaps a specific recommendation?

For example, is Angie's List a good place to start? And once I have found a few names that seem good, are there any tips to make sure I am choosing a good handyman/filtering out the bad ones?
