12K new jobs announced in Austin area so far this year

Companies relocating or expanding to the Austin metro have pledged to create nearly 12,000 jobs so far this year. 

Austin led the nation's major metros in estimated popular growth each year from 2010 to 2020, and the latest chamber numbers add credence to a belief among many local leaders that the region is poised for even more growth.

According to the tally, more than 70 companies — roughly half of which were new to the area — announced plans to create 11,753 positions for the metro through April. That's six times the number of jobs announced over the same timeframe in 2020.
