According to a report by the Austin Chamber of Commerce, Austin's seasonally adjusted June unemployment rate is 6.4%. That is down from 10.3% in May. That's a significant move in the right direction, but the area economy is still far from where it stood a the start for 2020. Austin ranks #8 among the top 50 best performing metros during the pandemic thus far. Dallas, Fort Worth, and San Antonio also made the top 10, all coming in above Austin. So, the Texas economy overall weathering the pandemic comparatively well thus far.

The leisure and hospitality sector was responsible for an outsized portion of the Austin MSA's job losses and gains in the past few months.

Check out this detailed report from the Austin Chamber of Commerce.
