Port Aransas Texas Short Term Rentals

Posted

Hi,

I am interested in buying a STR in Port Aransas this year. Anyone on BP who is successfully running a STR in the area who could share their insight? There is not much in the area under $400K so husband and I are debating if we should go for it. We do not own any other STR and currently only own one other property. Newbies here.

Hi Priscilla,

My wife and I recently purchased two STR in Port Aransas. I definitely think it's worth looking in to! A couple items to keep in mind when looking:

- Only some areas of town allow short term rentals due to the zoning. Most listings should disclose this though.

- Insurance on the coast can be brutal! Windstorm and flood insurance both increased after Hurricane Harvey so definitely include this in your numbers before you buy.

- We manage ours ourselves, but there are a few rental agencies in town (a simple google search should provide a few options). I would recommend calling one to discuss what type of property y'all are interested in. They should be able to give you an idea of comparable properties and projected income.

Let me know if you have any other specific questions as well. Good luck!
