Residential Assisted Living - Anyone with this experience?
Hi everyone. I'm new to BP and to the idea of real estate investing in general. I have wanted to open a residential assisted living for some time and know the business/operations side of it well. What is new to me is the real estate side of this business. Which has led me to BP.
Anyone on here with experience in both and can compare the two as far as long term potential? I understand they are different, but it seems the concept is similar to college housing or multifamily investing. Buy a house, renovate to state standards, and rent out by the room. I am curious on thoughts from anyone who started out in REI and went on to owning a Residential Assisted Living.
Any thoughts, feedback would be greatly appreciated!

@Erika Herrera I am not in the RAL space but have done a lot of research on it. It is NOT the same as college or MF housing. There are state regulations involved and insurance since you are taking care of people. They are not just people renting a room in a house. Unless you are talking Senior housing, RAL is basically a small assisted living center so you have to have licensing and provide dietary needs, etc. There is a lot of training available for it through a RAL "guru" type guy, but his info is really good. Check out RALacademy.com for more info on that. It is pricey but if you want to get into that space you need to be prepared. You can get licensed and be the administrator yourself, but then you are just getting yourself into a job. Otherwise you need to also hire a caretaker.
