How to find a Mentor?

Andrew Alston
Posted

Hello BP community

I am 21 years old with a huge desire to start investing in real estate and to learn about the different areas of investing. I currently reside in Dallas, but I am from Houston. Could any BP community members recommend some networking events in the Houston/Dallas area?

Thanks, Andrew Alston

@Andrew Alston I found mentors by trying to provide value to people for free that I wanted to meet. If I saw an investor talking about deals in neighborhoods I would put together a spreadsheet model of properties for sell in that area. If they were looking for something I would reach out to them and offer to help, etc.

When I was on the bigger pockets podcast (long time ago now) I had over 100 people message me asking for mentorship. I asked them to analyze some properties I was looking at in a zip code to vette out who was serious and who was not. Two people out of 100 actually did the work. One of them ran our property management business for 2 years and the other ended up becoming a wholesaler.

If you really want it the bar is low. You have to work hard, but that's it. Simple to understand, but hard to do.
