Tornado building code enhancement?
I am looking to buy a house for rental now and living after I retire in a few years, and TN is a good choice in that there's no state income tax and culturally rich. One house in Mt. Juliet caught my attention and I was going to give an offer. However when I dig more of the area, I found that there was tornado last year which caused casualty. I think for flooding I can avoid by buying in higher elevation area, but for tornado you can't really prevent. All you can do is probably buy a house with a strong basement so you can hide?
Compare with Florida, where all the houses are required to build with concrete block (at least first floor) not wood frame, and also many building code enhancement for hurricane. I wonder if there are similar building code enhancements in TN?
Also, how much home insurance cost in TN?
