Newbie In New York City What Should I know?

Hey, folks, I'm 23 years old and I'm looking to finally get serious about my financial future.  With that being said I don't know where to start.  I've been to seminars and I don't want to be sold anything I simply want to learn and see how things are done.  That is it.  

Here are my basic questions are 

Should I begin networking, and what events/meetups would you recommend?

What are some real estate tips for NYC?
