Moving to Albuquerque - First property/ Becoming an investor

Hello my fellow BP people!

My name is Keighton Leftwich and I just beginning my journey into the world of real estate investing. I currently live in northern Colorado, but am planning to move to Albuquerque this May as my girlfriend attends the water resources grad program at UNM over the next two years.

The reason I am creating this post is primarily for two reasons.

First, I am hoping to purchase my initial property upon our arrival. That being said, we have never been to Albuquerque before, so sticking out my hand and asking others for their expertise seems like the right thing to do. I am primarily interested in purchasing a multi-family unit that may be close to the UNM area but I am still open to any opportunities. I have been combing through https://www.crimemapping.com/ to try and understand what areas may be the safest and I have some areas I think may be great places to invest in, but I am curious to know what areas you think are the best. Also, do you think now is a great time to buy in ABQ? -- I have many more specific questions, but it appears I cannot ask them without paying for an account through BP.

Secondly, I will be graduating from Colorado State University this semester, and am eager to begin my career in real estate. As of now, I am not licensed as an agent, but will be enrolled in classes as soon as my CSU classes end. -- As BP states, I cannot ask for mentor recommendations without paying for an account, but I would be interesting in chatting with you in order to gain your valuable insight and opinions on the real estate community of Albuquerque.

As always, thanks for all the valuable content, and I look forward to connecting to you!

Gratefully,

Keighton Leftwich
