Tenant Never Cashed Check

Just got an email from a former tenant. I returned his security deposit 8 months ago, but he never cashed it. Now he wants me to write him another check. Of course right after I just did all my bookkeeping and taxes.

Lease is fairly vague on this but does say, in reference to returning the tenant's deposit:

"Owner is deemed to have complied with this paragraph by mailing said statement and any payment required to the last known address of Resident."

I'm fairly sure I am going to write him another check, just because I don't want to be a jerk, but thought it would be a good question for the community.

What would you all do?

I would send it as well. But first cancel the old check number with your bank. If there is a fee take it out of the money owed to them. Depending on state law, you could probably charge a check reissue fee as well. Good luck.
