Anyone w/ solar company recs in KCMO, Kansas City? Independence?
Hey I'm an OOS in KCMO and I'm looking to put solar on my rental. I don't want to hear about how I shouldn't do this ha... but instead anyone with any solar company recommendations?!?!
I've gotten one quote but would love to get another. Has anyone in KCMO or anywhere close by done solar on their house or rental? There are some great rebates and credits... and I'd love to talk to anyone who's pulled off applying for the federal credit with a rental as I heard there is a way to as a business? Anyways, thanks so much to anyone with info!

I would reach out to Good Energy Solutions (SunPower Elite dealer in Lawrence)
Regarding claiming the 30% tax credit on rental property: I've always been told no (including by my own CPA). Sec. 25D clearly states that the solar tax credit is for an individual taxpayer when the panels are installed for use in the taxpayer's primary residence. From tax code 25D: "solar water-heating panels and solar electric (photovoltaic) panels must be installed for use in a dwelling located in the United States and used as a residence by the taxpayer". Thus, Sec. 25D does not allow a credit when solar panels are installed for use in a residential rental property. The IRS further clarified this issue with Notice 2013-70 which provided further guidance on Sec. 25D. In the notice the IRS specifically states that while the credit may be taken for solar panels installed for use in a vacation home (as a percentage based on the time the taxpayer spends at the property I believe), the taxpayer may not claim the Sec. 25D credit for improvements made to an investment property, such as rental property, that is not also used as a residence by the taxpayer.
However for rental/investment property, instead of the solar credit 25D, you may be eligible to take an Investment Credit (IRS Form 3468) https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pd...
@Tanya F. also recently brought this piece from the tax advisor to my attention, which discusses how a business may be able to claim a solar tax credit on a rental property as a business through Section 48:

Talk to a CPA about the tax credit!
