Passing fire inspection for St. Paul duplex rental cert

Jordan Brunsberg
Posted

We’ve purchased a duplex in St. Paul thats zoned to be a duplex, was being used as owner occupied duplex but never got its official fire inspection and rental certification done. We know it’ll pass the basic gotcha’s outlined in the renters 101 class, but are unclear on what’s required on the following topics. Let me know your thoughts experienced rental property owners!

-fire doors, when/where are these required for a St. Paul duplex?

-sound barriers- any requirements here? Terrible insulation in this place. Not sure if they’re looking at this level of detail.

-fire barriers between floors/stairwells- it’s an old home so def not up to new code, but are they looking at this level of detail?

Anything helps!

Jordan
