When is a NPN worthless?

When browsing NPNs on the internet note sale sites I frequently see NPN for sale that, in my mind, should be time barred by the applicable state's statute of limitations. This one in particular is from my home state of MI and I know that the statute of limitations for breach of contract is 6 years. The relevant information is: "Last Payment Received Date:Oct 1, 2012".

If this is correct, and no payment whatsoever was made in over 6 years, can collecting on this note even be pursued? Wouldn't the loan servicer decline to pursue it for fear of violating the FDCPA?

@Ken V.

First off - not an attorney

In my experience with this the servicer may not want to collect because of violating FDCPA. Some will say if the loan has not matured then you can still collect the current payments but can only go after those which have not expired.

These situations for me have ended in legal battles which are not worth the fight, so for me loans which are past statute of limitations I don’t bother with.
