Hello Everyone,

I was looking into this as a place to start with real estate investing. Any recommendations, advice, success stories, pros, cons, ect.

Please let me know if buying deeds and paying off the back taxes/liens on a piece of land is a good way to start off my real estate investing career.

Thanks!

Dave

I fell into tax deeds years ago through a friend who had mentioned an area he was looking at. Turned out we bought 12 deeds and after the waiting period was up we sold all but one on eBay. Kept the last as a possible build for ourselves or long hold if the area exploded. Was an overall good experience and made two-three times on our money. Know your area and the process for the county your working. Ask as many questions pre auction as possible at county office and speak to local realtors about land sales. We have not done any other land purchase like this since. The area is not as hot as it once was. Money was tied up for a year and took me another 6 months to sell the 11 out of 12. Where we bought the county gives the owner who owed the back taxes a year to pay you back , but it does come with 6% interest if paid back. Better than a bank I guess. It was not really a passion for us, but like I said a good experience. Good luck
