Buying a Note but seller may not have original

As the subject says, I am purchasing a note from someone I know.  I have copies of the original note, but he is having difficulty locating the original promissory note and deed of trust.

Any recommendations on what can be done to make this transaction happen?

Hi Mike.

I need more info to be helpful. This is a seller financed note? Or institutional paper your friend bought and now wants out of?

And you said you have the note but need the note. Which one was a typo? ;)

One thing I can answer now -- the deed of trust should have been recorded with the county. The county can send you an official copy that is as good as an original. Most don't charge much for that either.
