Outrageous publication charge for CA foreclosure notice

I hired a law firm in Los Angeles to FC on a property where I held the 2nd position note. We ended up negotiating with the borrower and settled for a decent amount. The attorney forwarded an invoice for mailings and publication service. The publication service fee if $2,550 which I think is outrageous. The publisher charged $.70/word and when I call them they refused to provide me any info since the company that placed the add is a large and recurring client, of course. I was never provided an estimate for this either.

So, does anyone have any perspective on this? Is $2,550 a reasonable cost to publish FC notices in a small community newspaper? This is more than the fees that the attorney charged me.

Bob
