Tax Lien Fund from MMG capital?

I was at an RE event this weekend and talked to the managing partner of MMG capital. They are primarily a hard money fund but also have a Tax Lien fund. They invest nationally in tax lien certificates. The expected investor yield is 8%. What do you think about this way to invest in Tax Liens? I am sure you can get better returns from owning them yourself but living in CA and busy, I am not able to bid on auctions. Given that, is investing in such a fund a good idea? What are the possible risks and pitfalls?
