Newbie Question: Mortgage Note Investing in the UK - Is it possible?

Hi All

Very new to the world of real estate investing, so am currently trying to learn as much as possible.

The other day I came across mortgage note investing and looked into it further…do these exist in the UK? Everything else I have read about them seems to be related to the US specifically and not mentioned at all amongst UK investors. Is this market accessible for the average investor in the UK, or is it exclusively banks and hedge funds who buy/sell these sorts of instruments?

Would be very grateful for some clarity!
