The 2014 online tax lien auction for Pinal county in AZ concluded last week and here are some unofficial results. Results can change if investors do not make their final payments for their lien purchases.

I eliminate the "Struck to County" liens which are the liens nobody bid on and are now held by the county. There were 2,641 liens that were struck to the county. A total of $3,873,665.89 in liens.

Number of liens sold to investors:
2014 - 4,950
2013 - 4,340

Total dollar of liens sold:
2014 - $6,834,424.55
2013 - $6,791,144.22

Average rate of return overall:
2014 - 8.38%
2013 - 9.86%

Number of Investors who won liens:

2014 - 99
2013 - 199

Total Number of bids for all liens:
2014 - 20,789
2013 - 48,418

Rate Percent with the most number of bids overall:
2014 - 5% 5,543 bids
2013 - 7% 20,191 bids

Most bids per lien/parcel:
2014 - Four liens had 24 bids
2013 - Two liens each had 179 bids

@Serge S. I decided to cancel my bids and concentrate on Florida. I'm still going to look at the OTC auctions for the AZ counties.

@Ned Carey As I was pulling the 2013 numbers I noticed that the list of winners had a lot of similar names - meaning many of the winners were actually all from the same entity last year. In reality, it was probably close to the same number of individual entities that won liens in 2014 as there were in 2013. The fact that the interest rate that had the highest number of bids this year was 5% vs. 7% having the highest number of bids last year - proved out that investors were settling for lower rates in 2014 than 2013.

Until interest rates start ticking up for other low risk instruments I think we'll see these low rates in tax liens.
