Starting from Scratch in Grand Rapids?

Hey all, I am a new investor originally from Wisconsin, living in Iowa.  My girlfriend and I will be moving to Grand Rapids this spring.  I am planning on house hacking at first, then build my portfolio from there.

My question to you all would be if you were to start from scratch knowing what you know today, where, how, and why would you invest in the GR area?

Hey Creighton, welcome to Grand Rapids! I just moved back here after leaving to Minnesota after college.

I 100% recommend you house hack while you can. The low downpayment + ability to buy multiple doors, allows you scale easier for as long as you are willing to sacrifice.

The benefit to GR is you also have some excellent secondary markets to purchase cashflow (Lansing, Muskegon, Kalamazoo). I actively invest in Lansing as well for the lower cost of entry and good rent to price ratio.
