Texas Property Tax Protest

Good Morning BiggerPockets family!

Quick question:

I own a property in the Valley Ranch area of Irving, Texas.  At least once a year I get a letter in the mail about considering protesting the property tax amount that's being paid.  Is this just a scam where this organization gets money for "taking my case" or have any of you ever been successful in substantially reducing property taxes by petitioning the state assessor?

Thanks in advance for your input!

It is not a scam but it is a service that charges you a flat fee or percentage of savings to do what you can also do yourself

Protests are filed with your county appraisal district(Not State assessor) and must be filed by May 15th in most cases.  The protest is not for reducing the property taxes but it is to reduce the valuation of the property
