MSD Update on New FEMA Floodplain Mapping - New Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood maps become effective February 26, 2021. At that time, any related flood insurance requirements will also take effect. The new FEMA maps remove approximately 1,400 properties from floodplain maps and add 1,100 new properties to the maps. The maps were updated to incorporate new flood models with more detailed information and, based on Kentucky Division of Water requirements, some streams were mapped to show a floodplain for the first time.
