Stairwell Codes / Basement Finishing to add bedrooms
I will be renovating my duplex's basement (I currently live in this unit) to add 3 bedrooms in a current 2 bedroom unit. The basement is half finished with the finished area needing an egress window.
There are 2 staircases that lead to the basement. Neither of them are to code. Both are too narrow and one has a height and run issue (too low ceiling and too short of runs).
Is this something I will need to get fixed before renting it out or will this be grandfathered in?
Here is the current layout. The upper left brown area is the stairwell with too low ceiling, too short of runs, and too narrow.

I would like to convert the basement to something similar to this. I need to remove the stairway in "Bedroom 3" so I can add an egress window. The other two walls of the room do not have access to put an egress due to a porch and the first floor extending over.

Thanks in advance!
Matt
