Structural Issues in Foundation (NJ)

Justin Herrera
Posted

Hi all, looking for any insight on a house we are looking to put an offer on. 1950's, 1 story ranch. It's clear there are some structural issues from our brief tour of the home. It seems as if half of the house is sloping down. I was able to grab a quick video to show some of the cracks we spotted in the basement foundation. Looks like they tried to patch one of the larger cracks. The basement floor is also sloping. Can anyone give some insight on how severe the repair work might be? Obviously not looking for a in-depth report but wanting to get an idea of how much to spend to fix. I appreciate any and all comments. Brief Video of Basement

You need to add video of the supporting structure in the basement, any beams, assists, etc. for us to give you an idea, but if you have a ranch that has sloping in the house, it's possible that they did an addition and didn't add additional support below which is common in cheap renovations. Cracks, in and of themselves, can be settling and can be nothing, but the direction is important, but the beams are necessary to see and the slope of the floor. How fast would a marble go from one end to the other in the first floor?
