Does middle eastern construction exp help in canada?

I am a civil engineer with about 8 years construction fitouts experience (5 years-India, 3 years-Qatar) likely to move to canada within next 1 year.

Some questions in my mind:

1. How/where to start?

2. Anything I could do before landing which would help me to an early start?

3. I am looking forward towards a general contracting career, what courses or jobs should I focus on?
