Can I serve as the General Contractor on my financed properties

Local lender stated I could not serve as my own GC, but later says yes. I live in Texas and am brand new and brand new to the BP group.  I believe if I have each sub sign a release of mechanics lien when I pay them I should cover my assets, but lender didn't make feel confident I could be my own GC. My local bank has approved me to find a property to fix and flip. Just trying to find a good property to start with. Any suggestions or experience in this area would be great.
