Does renovating one side of the duplex increase property value?

Me and my cousin owns a duplex where she owns one side and I own the other.

The duplex is currently outdated and I want to move in and renovate my side of the duplex and I was just wondering if it will increase the value of the entire duplex?

My cousin does not want to renovate her side because it is currently being leased out to good tenants and she does not want to deal with new tenants.
