Hiring non-insured handy-men

Hi Team, We just purchased an investment property and we need a 1 car garage, back yard wooden fence and drywall with walls (from the basement) demolished. We will have a 40 yard dumpster in the driveway. My question to you: Is it ok for me to hire guys that do this kind of thing on the side? It will be a lot cheaper for labor costs? Can you give me your thoughts please? Thanks, Marty
