Building Container Homes

Hi everyone, I'm new to real estate and becoming book smart on the subject. A few friends of mine and I have a vision of building shipping container homes. I was wondering if anyone has done it before and how the price and time compares to building stick frame etc. I got quoted for $1800 a piece on 40ft shipping containers. I know welders and machinists so I can assemble my own team for the unconventional construction. I don't know what good prices are for electric and plumbing. Any help or advice would be great!

The whole shipping container housing thing is more of a marketing, gimmicky thing, an architectually modern look....not necessarily a cost saving construction method.

$1800 for a 40’ container is definitely a used container, and not likely in very good shape....you’d want new containers, “one trippers”.  I haven’t bought one in over 10 years but they were about $3k for a 20’er.  But again, the cost of the container is insignificant to the over all project costs.
