Beginning My Real Estate Career

Hello everyone, my name is Alex. I’m new to BiggerPockets and I’m glad I found this site as I am looking to get started in real estate and there is a lot of great information on here. A little bit of background, I’m 26 years old wIth no kIds or wife, I currently live in Houston wIth my family and we just bought a house earlIer this year, my profession is workIng offshore as an NDT technician and I’m currently subcontracting with different companies as I’ve been laid off from my previous company. I’ve been laid off 3 times in the past 5 years due to the unstable oil field and I’m tired of putting forth my best efforts into a company that is going to let me go. I’m not the kind of person to sit back and complain about how life isn’t fair, if I wanted to I could find a full time job in my profession tomorrow but I’m tired of being a number and I want to begin growing my own business. For the most part I manage my money well, I have good credit, I make good income and the only debt I have is my house and vehicle. I say “only” because I am not in credit card debt or owe any outstanding payments. I know a couple people that are in real estate and I’m looking to have a sit down with them soon but I figured why not reach out to other people. I’ve been doing my research for the last few months but there’s nothing like actual conversations for building knowledge even if it is through the internet. I’m still undecided on whether I want to get my auction license, buy homes, renovate them and flip them or if I should buy duplex homes and rent them out. I’m leaning more towards flipping because for me to ge started in real estate i feel like I’d have to get a loan from the bank and I’d like to pay that back as soon as possible. I’m open to suggestions, pointers, do’s and dont’s and meets. Thanks for reading! Best of luck to you all!
