Mold remediation--how not to get ripped off?

If there is a mold smell in the house and you suspect mold is inside the drywall, what is the best way to approach getting this fixed? (My concern is that there is no good way to tell whether the mold remediators are ripping me off since I can't see that actual damage behind the walls?)
