Alternative to finish drywall and paint- interior designer panels

Hello,

Is it more costly to finish and paint drywall vs hanging and paneling with a designer panel?

Thoughts?

Looking into wall options for my house build and have always loved the look of designer panels.  I got a giant fee for hanging and finishing drywall.  Would the seams need to be finished if you panel right over?
